Terms of Service
These terms are a binding agreement between you and Oil Data AI LLC (“OilData,” “we,” “us”) for access to oildata.ai and related services (the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to these terms and to the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. The Service
OilData helps you look up and compare public oil and gas records, including wells, production, operators, leases, fields, and counties, primarily for Texas. Coverage, reporting periods, and completeness vary by dataset. Features may change, and some areas require an account. We do not promise that any particular record, county, or time period is available.
We are not your fiduciary, broker, adviser, or agent. Nothing on the Service creates a fiduciary or adviser relationship. The Service is not a title opinion, reserve report, or appraisal. We have no duty to update a page after we publish it. Public data, and our presentation of it, may be delayed, incomplete, or inaccurate. Derived metrics, including totals, rankings, rates, and comparisons, are OilData’s own calculations. They are not a source agency’s official figures unless the page says the figure is copied from that source.
2. Eligibility and accounts
You must be able to form a binding contract and be at least 18 years old. The Service is not for anyone under 18.
Public self-serve registration is not generally open. If we give you an account, you must provide a working email address and keep your password confidential. You are responsible for activity under your account. Tell us promptly at hello@oildata.ai if you believe the account was used without permission. We may decline, suspend, or close an account that violates these terms or that we cannot verify.
Notes, watchlists, and saved criteria you submit stay yours. You grant us a non-exclusive license to host and display that content only as needed to operate the Service for you. To delete saved items, watchlists, or your account, email hello@oildata.ai. The Service does not let you delete saved items, watchlists, or an account.
3. Acceptable use
You may use the Service for your own research and internal work. You may not:
- Scrape, crawl, harvest, or bulk-download the Service, or bypass rate limits, robots rules, or access controls, except with our prior written permission.
- Use an automated agent, bot, or script to access the Service, except for a single ordinary browser session under your own account, or with our prior written permission.
- Use the Service, its compilation, tables, exports, or outputs to train, fine-tune, or evaluate a machine-learning model or large language model, or to build a dataset for that purpose.
- Resell, sublicense, or redistribute OilData’s compilation, tables, exports, or presentation, or build a competing database from systematic copies of the Service. This limit applies to our compilation and software. It does not take away any right you independently have in a public record obtained from the government source itself.
- Misrepresent your identity, probe or disrupt the Service, upload malware, or use the Service to violate the law.
- Remove attribution, or present OilData output as an official government record or as an RRC product.
- Use the Service to send spam or to collect personal information from other people.
We may throttle, block, or terminate access that looks like scraping, automated-agent traffic, or a threat to the Service.
4. Public records and Railroad Commission attribution
Oil and gas records shown on OilData come from public data, including data published by the Railroad Commission of Texas (the “RRC”). OilData is not affiliated with or approved by the Railroad Commission of Texas, and is not endorsed by the Railroad Commission of Texas.
Figures are often operator-reported and may be revised. Oil may be reported at lease level and gas at gas-well level. A page that lacks a record is not proof that the record does not exist at the source. Check the RRC’s official records, and any other original source, before you rely on a figure.
5. Other public sources
If the Service shows records from other public sources, we identify the source where they appear, and that source’s own terms may also apply. OilData’s terms govern our compilation and software. They do not replace the terms that apply to a record you obtain from the source itself, and they do not make OilData the owner of that source’s data.
6. No professional advice
The Service is for general information. It is not investment, financial, legal, title, engineering, drilling, environmental, or other professional advice, and it is not a recommendation to buy, sell, lease, drill, complete, or value any interest. Maps, coordinates, lease and operator context, and production totals can be incomplete or wrong. You are responsible for decisions you make and for confirming records with the original sources and with qualified advisors.
7. Intellectual property
We own the Service’s software, design, compilation, and the OilData name and logos, subject to the rights of public-record sources and our suppliers. Public-agency data remains subject to that agency’s terms and to public-record law. These terms do not assign you our software or trademarks. You may not use our name in a way that suggests the RRC or anyone else endorses you.
If you send feedback, we may use it without obligation to you.
8. Third-party services
The Service is hosted by Vercel and stores data with Supabase. Links to the Railroad Commission of Texas or other third-party sites leave OilData. Those sites have their own terms. We are not responsible for them.
9. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OILDATA DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, QUIET ENJOYMENT, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE, OR THAT DATA WILL BE ACCURATE, CURRENT, OR COMPLETE. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW CERTAIN DISCLAIMERS, SO SOME OF THESE LIMITS MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
10. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OILDATA AND ITS SUPPLIERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, LOST DATA, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, OR THE COST OF SUBSTITUTE SERVICES, WHETHER OR NOT WE WERE ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF THE SERVICE IN ANY TWELVE-MONTH PERIOD IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICE IN THAT PERIOD AND (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS.
These limits are a basic part of the bargain. They apply to the extent a claim is not finally determined to arise from our gross negligence or willful misconduct, and they do not limit liability that cannot legally be limited.
11. Indemnity
You will defend and indemnify Oil Data AI LLC and its directors, employees, and contractors against claims, damages, losses, and reasonable expenses (including attorneys’ fees) arising out of your use of the Service, your content, your violation of these terms, or your scraping, redistribution, automated access, model training, or other misuse of the data, except to the extent caused by our gross negligence or willful misconduct.
12. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these terms, if we must do so to protect the Service or other people, or if we discontinue a feature. Sections that by their nature should survive, including acceptable use as to data you already copied in violation of these terms, intellectual property, disclaimers, liability limits, indemnity, and governing law, survive termination.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, excluding its conflict-of-laws rules. Venue for a dispute arising out of these terms or the Service lies in the state and federal courts located in Travis County, Texas. Those courts have exclusive jurisdiction, except that either party may seek temporary injunctive relief in any court of competent jurisdiction to stop misuse of the Service or intellectual property. You and we consent to personal jurisdiction in those Texas courts.
14. Changes
We may update these terms by posting a revised version and changing the effective date. If a change is material and you have an account, we will send notice to the email address on the account before the change takes effect, or when it takes effect if advance notice is not practical. If you continue to use the Service after the effective date, you accept the revised terms. If you do not agree, stop using the Service.
15. Other terms
These terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service. If a provision is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these terms without our consent. We may assign them in connection with a reorganization or sale of the Service. Neither party is liable for a delay caused by events outside its reasonable control. Headings are for convenience only.
